Eva Perón, a Corpse that Speaks from Silence
This investigation is concerned with the dialectics of Eva Peron’s performed identity and the political environment in which she was immersed. In exploring the thematic of Eva Peron’s body and corpse, I confront the question: How can dance studies contribute to this topic? In response, I approach the subject from two perspectives: What was the social role of Eva Peron’s body while she was still alive? How does a body, an embalmed corpse, perform the ritual of political power, through singular transcendence of time and space? The answers inevitably deal with the meaning of Evita’s body and its symbolism in the political–cultural space of Argentina.
